The Nguyen Dynasty and Other Nationalist Parties Working Together for a Free Viet-Nam The Nguyen Dynasty recognizes with great pride the large number of nationalist parties working in exile and in the Fatherland itself for the eventual restoration of a free and independent government for Vietnam. This diverse group of patriots displays the widespread strength of the Vietnamese people, that so many have not forgotten their homeland, that so many are willing to make an effort to oppose the Communist tyranny which continues to oppress the people in Vietnam and that they are holding fast to the proud roots of their culture, which has always defied injustice in any form and carried out any sacrifice to defeat the enemies of Vietnam. It has often been the case that groups have been forced to work secretly, behind the scenes, for the liberation of Vietnam. Throughout recent history, the most venerable of these organizations have been monarchist in origin, intensely proud of their traditional culture and determined to restore the legitimate dynasty to the throne. One of the oldest of these was the Viet Nam Quang Phuc Hoi (Association for the Restoration of Vietnam) under the leadership of the Nguyen prince Marquis Cuong De; and the patriotic scholar Phan Boi Châu. Other patriotic groups formed later and each played a part in the ultimate success of the independence movement. The Communist Party was only a recently formed organization, which hijacked the movement already in place by the traditional nationalist parties which could trace their roots all the way back to the Cân Vuong movement led by the young Nguyen Emperor Hàm Nghi. All of these related movements still provide us with a heroic example and courageous inspiration. The Nguyen Dynasty firmly believes that, in order to obtain the ultimate goal of the liberation of the homeland, that all Vietnamese nationalist groups must work in complete solidarity with each other, so that the entire Vietnamese exile community, all around the world, can speak with a single voice to the rest of the world. Only in this way can we demand action by the international community to stop the religious, ethnic and political persecutions in Vietnam, to condemn the environmental exploitation of the country and the neglect of sacred landmarks as well as to call for a quick end to the exploitation of Vietnamese workers by foreign companies and corrupt party officials. The Nguyen Dynasty today takes a position in keeping with the views of the great patriot, and loyal supporter of the Nguyen Dynasty Phan Boi Châu. He wrote, in his autobiography, about a disagreement he had with his fellow nationalist Phan Chu Trinh, in a series of debates over several days concerning the importance of the Emperor. Phan Boi Châu said, "Thereafter, over more than ten days, he and I debated time and again, and our opinions were diametrically opposed. That is to say, he wished to overthrow the monarchy in order to create a basis for the promotion of popular rights; I on the contrary, maintained that first the foreign enemy should be driven out, and after our nation's independence was restored we could talk about other things. My plan was to make use of the monarchy, which he opposed absolutely. His plan was to raise up the people to abolish the monarchy, with which I absolutely disagreed. In other words, he and I were pursuing one and the same goal, but our means were considerably different. He wished to start by relying on the French to abolish the monarchy, but I wished to start by driving out the French to restore Viet-Nam -- that was the difference." Considering this attitude, the Nguyen Dynasty today wishes to promote the unity and cooperation of all nationalist groups, regardless of opinions on lesser issues. Organizations such as the Dai Viet, the Viet Nam Quoc Dan Dang or the Duy Tan Hoi may have operated in different ways and had different heroes, but the goal of national liberation was all the same. The Nguyen Dynasty wishes to honor all heroes of various beliefs or ideologies who sacrificed for their country, and all nationalist parties of different political viewpoints who continue to struggle for freedom and an end to the Communist tyranny in Vietnam. We must put aside our smaller differences to work toward this great common goal: the liberation and restoration of the Great South to reclaim the honor of the country and reassert the dignity of all of our ancestors who have fought for this same goal over the centuries.
